The lesson listing is updated about once a month, unless something unexpected happens. If you see less than a week's worth of several types of events, an update should be on its way.
Our typical schedule includes Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dancing on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, What's Next Classes and Workshops (not for beginners) on Mondays, and (seasonally) 4-Hour Group Classes on various week nights.

	Beginner Line Dancing Get your "Boots on the Ground" Line Dance Workshop Tuesday, June 17, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm It's time for you to get groovy. You don't need boots. You don't need a partner. You don't need anything but yourself to come out and have a great time dancing with us. Every workshop, we present for you an exciting combination of ultra beginner and slightly more challenging dances, selected to get your toes tapping in no time. Everything is broken down by our expert instructors, leveraging decades of experience to help you make sense of the moves and give you options to make them your own. Easiest dances are taught at the beginning of the evening, more challenging dances towards the end, with a bit of social dancing and practice time in between. So, if you've never done this before, come early! 	Cuban-Style Dance with Nilda Guerra Group Class Friday, June 20, 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm Join highly acclaimed Cuban choreographer and instructor Nilda Guerra for a 6-week introduction to Cuban Dance at Sapphire Ballroom on June 6, 13, 20, 27, July 11, 18. Whether you are a long time Latin dancer wanting to improve your skills, a beginner looking for a new and exciting experience, or someone who just loves to dance, this exploration of the entrancing world of Cuban dance is an adventure waiting to happen. In each workshop, participants will be exposed to one of the many various dance/music genres that have evolved in Cuba over the years, from “Son”, which is the heartbeat of Cuban country music in its fusion of the Spanish guitar with the African drum, to Bolero, Mambo, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, and of course Salsa. Prepare for a full-on cultural immersion with a talented and charismatic guide to lead you on a journey of discovery into the world of “Cubanismo”, the essence of Cuba. We hope you will join us for some good fun, great music, and hot dancing. About Nilda Guerra: Nilda Guerra has lived and breathed in that artistic and cultural milieu her entire life, studying at the prestigious Escuela Vocational de Arte and performing in various dance companies in Cuba and on tour abroad, before taking up her true passion, choreography. She fulfilled her dream of creating her own independent dance company in 2001 with the formation of Ballet Rakatan, a multi genre company that features in its productions the complex fusion of all manner of Cuban dance and music. This elegant dance will teach you grace and balance to beautiful music. With a slow pace and simple rhythm, Waltz is a wonderful dance to start your ballroom journey with. Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule later in the season. It makes an awesome #DateNight, #ParentsNightOut, or an evening of #FunWithFriends. 	Historic Dance (in casual clothes) Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop Tuesday, August 12, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing. Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.
