Our typical schedule includes Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dancing on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, What's Next Classes and Workshops (not for beginners) on Mondays, and (seasonally) 4-Hour Group Classes on various week nights.

	Beginner Line Dancing #GetUpAndBoogie Line Dance Line Dance Workshop Tuesday, May 20, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm No - seriously - you need to get up and boogie! Combine awesome music with expert instruction at a beginner-friendly workshop that will get you moving in no time. Each BLD workshop features an exciting combination of ultra beginner and slightly more challenging dances, giving you the chance to get your feet under you and then challenge yourself to do more. Easiest dances are taught at the beginning of the evening, more challenging dances towards the end, with a bit of social dancing and practice time in between. So, if you've never done this before, come early! 	We're dancin' here Bachata Friday Beginner Workshop Friday, May 30, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm If you love Salsa, but wish it weren't quite so fast, you should definitely try Bachata. It's got all the great spins and swagger of Salsa, but a much milder tempo. Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule later in the season. It makes an awesome #DateNight, #ParentsNightOut, or an evening of #FunWithFriends. 	Cuban-Style Dance with Nilda Guerra Intermediate Technique Saturday, May 31, 10:00am - 12:00pm Join highly acclaimed Cuban choreographer Nilda Guerra for a 2 hour introductory Cuban dance workshop at Sapphire Ballroom on Saturday, May 31, from 10 am to 12 noon. Whether you are a long time latin dance aficionado wanting to improve your skills, a beginner looking for a new and exciting experience, or someone who just loves to dance and would like to expand your repertoire, this exploration of the entrancing world of Cuban dance and music culture with Nilda will fulfill your desires. In this workshop, participants will be exposed to many of the various dance/music genres that have evolved in Cuba over the years, from “Son”, which is the heartbeat of Cuban country music in its fusion of the Spanish guitar with the African drum, to Bolero, Mambo, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, and of course Salsa. This will not be your Friday night salsa lesson at the local dance bar, but rather a full-on cultural immersion with a talented and charismatic guide to lead you on a journey of discovery into the world of “Cubanismo”, the essence of Cuba. About Nilda Guerra: Nilda Guerra has lived and breathed in that artistic and cultural milieu her entire life, studying at the prestigious Escuela Vocational de Arte and performing in various dance companies in Cuba and on tour abroad, before taking up her true passion, choreography. She fulfilled her dream of creating her own independent dance company in 2001 with the formation of Ballet Rakatan, a multi genre company that features in its productions the complex fusion of all manner of Cuban dance and music. In its 24 years of existence Ballet Rakatan has toured the world, performing to highest acclaim to packed houses in the most prestigious of theaters from City Center on Broadway, to Saddler’s Wells in the West End London, to La Scala in Milan and The Sydney Opera House among many many others. She takes immense pride in being a defender of her cultural heritage through the productions she creates and through the teaching of the complex skills involved in Cuban dance to talented young dancers who desire to follow in her footsteps at a school of dance in Havana sponsored by the company. 	Next Level Line Dance Y'all ready for this? Line Dance Line Dance Workshop Monday, June 2, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm So you've danced around the walls a time or two and you're ready for more? Awesome. We'd love to have you! The dances taught on Monday nights tend to have a larger variety of figures, rhythms, and more complicated transitions than beginner line dances (taught on Tuesdays), so be prepared to battle wall-nesia and get your feet tangled on the path to ALD success. But the result will be worth it, without doubt. 	Exercises to Improve Balance Technique What's Next Workshop Monday, June 2, 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm This exercise class is specifically geared towards improving your balance while dancing. Of course, that also means improving your balance while standing and walking, which really can't be a bad thing. You will sweat; you may be sore; you will probably complain (we all do); but we keep coming back for more. 	Dive into American Tango Tango Deep Dive Workshop Monday, June 9, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm We will be diving into what makes American Tango so iconic and how to get that dramatic Tango flavor in their dance. Participants will learn and practice several foundation moves, improve their technique, and get a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing. 	Historic Dance (in casual clothes) Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop Tuesday, June 10, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing. Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set. This workshop is still not a “high dive,” not intended to be super challenging, but will give you some more coolness to play with.
