The lesson listing is updated about once a month, unless something unexpected happens. If you see less than a week's worth of several types of events, an update should be on its way.
Our typical schedule includes Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dancing on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, What's Next Classes and Workshops (not for beginners) on Mondays, and (seasonally) 4-Hour Group Classes on various week nights.

Dive into 4-Ct Hustle
Still making those rails earn their keep Hustle Deep Dive Workshop
Monday, August 18, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
4-Count Hustle has long been a beginner's favorite. But it gets real advanced, real fast.
We will be diving into what makes 4-Count Hustle so smooth and how good technique makes it all flow. We'll be paying special attention to moves that require the leads to bounce back and forth between rails, while the followers gracefully glide from end to end of the slot. Participants will learn and practice several moves, learn to use good Hustle technique in all of them, and get a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing.

Price: $21/person in-studio for one hour and a half workshop
$32/person in-studio for both hour and a half workshops.

Beginner Line Dancing
#GetUpAndBoogie Line Dance Line Dance Workshop
Tuesday, August 19, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Seriously - you need to get up and boogie! Combine awesome music with expert instruction and you've got a beginner-friendly workshop that will get you moving in no time. Each BLD workshop features an exciting combination of ultra beginner and slightly more challenging dances, giving you the chance to get your feet under you and then challenge yourself to do more. Easiest dances are taught at the beginning of the evening, more challenging dances towards the end, with a bit of social dancing and practice time in between. So, if you've never done this before, come early!

Salsa Friday Beginner Workshop
Friday, August 22, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Always wanted to learn to dance but didn't know where to start? Try Salsa! This sizzling Latin dance is a fantastic way to get started dancing. It works beautifully to a large variety of music (not just Latin Salsa!) and is a great solo dance too.
Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule the later in the season.
It makes an awesome #DateNight, #ParentsNightOut, or an evening of #FunWithFriends.

Learning line dancing makes it easier to learn all types of dance. All you need to feel comfortable on the dance floor is a friendly, low-pressure place to start. Cuban-Style Dance with Nilda Guerra
We're back on the Floor! Group Class

Join highly acclaimed Cuban choreographer and instructor Nilda Guerra for an introduction to Cuban Dance at Sapphire Ballroom.
Whether you are a long time Latin dancer wanting to improve your skills, a beginner looking for a new and exciting experience, or someone who just loves to dance, this exploration of the entrancing world of Cuban dance is an adventure waiting to happen.
In each workshop, participants will be exposed to one of the many various dance/music genres that have evolved in Cuba over the years, from “Son”, which is the heartbeat of Cuban country music in its fusion of the Spanish guitar with the African drum, to Bolero, Mambo, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, and of course Salsa. Prepare for a full-on cultural immersion with a talented and charismatic guide to lead you on a journey of discovery into the world of “Cubanismo”, the essence of Cuba. We hope you will join us for some good fun, great music, and hot dancing.
About Nilda Guerra:
Nilda Guerra has lived and breathed in that artistic and cultural milieu her entire life, studying at the prestigious Escuela Vocational de Arte and performing in various dance companies in Cuba and on tour abroad, before taking up her true passion, choreography. She fulfilled her dream of creating her own independent dance company in 2001 with the formation of Ballet Rakatan, a multi genre company that features in its productions the complex fusion of all manner of Cuban dance and music.

Afternoon Social
Free for Beginners! (because we like you) Bachata Social Gathering

We haven't danced in a while. Some of you, we haven't had the chance to dance with at all! Come on- We want to see your lovely face! Come enjoy an casual afternoon of fun, laughter, and dancing. Will there be a mixer mid-dance? Oh yeah. Probably, because they are social.
We’ll be starting the afternoon with a short Bachata lesson. This dance is great for beginners and still exciting for advanced dancers. No experience or partner necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and your dancing shoes!
So plan now to join fellow dancers, young, old, experienced, and shiny new for an afternoon of good food, good friends, good times, great music, and incredible dancing.

Prerequisite: While everyone is welcome, Dance Parties are intended for those who have already taken a few lessons - Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dance Classes, or private lessons. If you know at least a step or two in a dance style, you'll be able to pick up more at the party.
No one dances to all the music at a dance party, so don't worry if you don't know much. Watching can be fun and so can meeting other Sapphire students! The pre-dance lesson is beginner friendly and will include something shiny and cool.

Historic Dance (in casual clothes)
Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop
Tuesday, September 9, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing.
Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.

Price: This workshop is free, but a donation jar will be out during the dancing, if you feel like adding a couple of dollars. .
