Group Lessons and Events

The lesson listing is updated about once a month, unless something unexpected happens. If you see less than a week's worth of several types of events, an update should be on its way.
Our typical schedule includes Friday Beginner Workshops, Line Dancing on 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, What's Next Classes and Workshops (not for beginners) on Mondays, and (seasonally) 4-Hour Group Classes on various week nights.

Dive into Salsa
Salsa Deep Dive Workshop
Monday, March 10, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
We will be diving into what makes Salsa so popular, useful, and fun. Participants will learn and practice several foundation moves, improve their technique, and get a short routine that can be used over and over again while social dancing.
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: $21/person in-studio for one hour and a half workshop
$48/person in-studio for all 3 hour and a half workshops.

Registration by noon the day of the event required. We will accommodate late registrations when we can.
Prerequisite: Participants should be comfortable dancing Salsa using closed and open positions.

It Don't Mean a Thing
East Coast Swing Friday Beginner Workshop
Friday, March 14, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Always wanted to learn to dance but didn't know where to start? East Coast Swing is your friend. Country, blues, rock, metal, pop, hip hop - they all have Swings! It works beautifully to such a large variety of music that we try to teach it to random people on the street.
Missed last week? No problem! Each week we teach a 40-50 minute lesson, starting with the absolute basics in a fun, popular dance style. And then, finish off the hour with a little taste of another style that will be on the schedule later in the season.
It makes an awesome #DateNight, #ParentsNightOut, or an evening of #FunWithFriends.
Location: Sapphire Studio (downtown Christiansburg) and online
Price: $9/person in-studio (online options available, contact us for details).

Climb Higher, Dive Deeper
The next step to mastering sweet Salsa Salsa Deep Dive Workshop
Monday, March 17, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Take the plunge and learn more, more, more Salsa. This workshop is still not a “high dive,” not intended to be super challenging, but will give you some more coolness to play with.
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: $21/person in-studio for one hour and a half workshop

Beginner Line Dancing
You don't need a partner to have a great time dancing! Line Dance Workshop
Tuesday, March 18, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
With an exciting combination of ultra beginner and slightly more challenging dances, this workshop will get your toes tapping in no time. Easiest dances are taught at the beginning of the evening, more challenging dances towards the end, with a bit of social dancing and practice time in between. So, if you've never done this before, come early!
Location: Sapphire Studio
Price: $9/person in-studio.

Prerequisite: None! We search the Line Dance world for dances that both beginner and advanced line dancers will love. If you want something more challenging, look for ALD typically on the first Monday of the month.

Abi's diverse dance background consists of Lindy, Balboa, West Coast Swing, American Ballroom, Social Latin, Hustle and more! These all combine together to create a delightfully knowledgeable teacher with a gift for passing along information.
She began dancing Lindy Hop in the middle of the Neo-Swing era in 1998 at the Derby in Hollywood. Growing up in Los Angeles, she always had interest in partner dancing because, as someone who had to lead in life, she aspired to understand what it meant to follow. After moving cross country, she discovered the West Coast Swing scene and has made herself at home.

Price: $25/person in advance, $30/person on the day of and at the door .

Next Level Line Dance
We're looking for the next Shivers Line Dance Workshop
Monday, April 7, 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
So you've danced around the walls a time or two and you're ready for more? Awesome. We'd love to have you! The dances taught on Monday nights tend to have a larger variety of figures, rhythms, and more complicated transitions than beginner line dances (taught on Tuesdays), so be prepared to battle wall-nesia and get your feet tangled on the path to ALD success. But the result will be worth it, without doubt.

Price: $14/person in-studio.

Exercises to Improve Balance
Technique What's Next Workshop
Monday, April 7, 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
This exercise class is specifically geared towards improving your balance while dancing. Of course, that also means improving your balance while standing and walking, which really can't be a bad thing. You will sweat; you may be sore; you will probably complain (we all do); but we keep coming back for more.
Location: Sapphire Studio (downtown Christiansburg) and online

Historic Dance (in casual clothes)
Historic Dance (English Country Dance) Workshop
Tuesday, April 8, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join the English Country Dancers of the New River Valley Historic Dance Society as we laugh, dance, and enjoy each other's company while learning dance new to us, but old as the 13 Colonies. This is the dancing you find in Pride and Prejudice, that George Washington did on vacation, and that evolved into modern Contra and Square dancing.
Beginners, groups, singles, and families are always welcome. Every dance will be taught by being broken down into simple components and cued while dancing. If you can walk, you can dance, and we'd love to have you join the set.

Price: This workshop is free, but a donation jar will be out during the dancing, if you feel like adding a couple of dollars. .
