Latin Heat Night (Social Dance)

The pre-dance lessons on Salsa and Merengue. Music will emphasize a variety of Latin dances, but will include Smooth & Swing styles too.

Another Open House to hopefully entice some of those shy beginners out to try ballroom dancing. We'll start the evening with a strickly beginner lesson, then put what you've learned to use for the rest of the evening. The next Open House paired with a beginner's dance will be in 2006 - so don't miss this one! Bring A Guest, Get a Reward! Receive a free admission to a future Cheaper-Than-A-Moive Beginner Workshop or future Saturday at Sapphire (social dance) when you bring or refer a new person to this Open House at 6:30pm on Saturday, 9/10 or the Cheaper-Than-A-Movie Workshop at 7pm on Friday, 9/9.

You asked for it - you got it! This is our first try at a Country Night at Sapphire. The lesson will feature Two-Step and either a Waltz or Cha-Cha line dance. But don't think your selections will be limited - country and western dance styles include east and west coast swing, cha-cha, country waltz, and night club 2. (Boots and hats not required.)

Disco Night was smokin'!! We had over 100 people hustlin' on the dance floor - and a whole bunch of new faces. The music was hot (and so was the polyester) and everyone had a great time.

It was a great night to be a beginner. We had a strange and wonderful abundance of men, so we started the evening with the Samba Line Dance, which taught us several samba steps without requireing partners, then touched on Rumba and 4-Count Hustle. Debbi forgot her camera, so we don't have any pictures. Sorry!

Boy - did we ever work off some turkey! In spite of the cold and wet weather, we had lots of people show up for our last 4th Saturday dance for the year. We learned the basics of Carolina Shag and a progressive break sequence in Rumba.

With several in costume, we had a blast!  The lesson introduced several basic steps and a turn in Salsa, and basic and left rock turn in Fox Trot.

Mount Empire USABDA Costume Ball

The costumes were outrageous to say the least, and the dancing was awesome!  Plus, our minds were spinning after that Tango lesson: Promenade to L Side-by-side position, free turns to switch places, L turn for Lady to roll into shadow position, 1/2 of open right turn, roll out, step/points, rock and corte to argentine walk and tango close.

Another great turn-out!  In Cha Cha we covered the basic and offset breaks, in Tango we taught the basic and reverse turn.

 Wilderness Trail Festival Open House

We had a great time and unbelievably good weather at the Wilderness Trail Festival. Several people stopped in to give ballroom dancing a try - some of them came back for more. Even those too timid to try on Saturday had fun looking in through the window. Thanks so much to the Sapphire Regualrs who came out and lent a hand!

Open House & Beginner's Dance

Thank you to all who attended!  We had a great time...and the evening reminded us that we all need more opportunities to dance, and practice what we are learning in classes.  Hmmmm?!  Maybe we'll see more dances in the future...

4th Saturday Dance, August 28
Another great turn out!  85 people graced the doorways throughout the night.  What a blast we had learning Samba and Night Club 2-Step, and dancing the night away.  Thank you to all who helped stock the food and beverage table!

Ribbon Cutting, August 27th
