1 - Silver Screen Soiree, This Saturday!
|
We are rolling out the red carpet for this star studded evening of dancing... the stars being YOU of course! You will feel like you are dancing on the big screen or stage as we play music from both Hollywood and Broadway. Come prepared to evoke your inner actor/actress as we enjoy dancing the fabulous variety of Ballroom, Latin, Swing, and more.
Start the night off with a lesson in American Tango at 7:30; this dance should win an award (Best Leading Man?) for all the drama it brings to the floor! Dance Party lessons always begin by covering the basics but end with something more advanced. So, no matter where you are in your dance we try to have something for you!
We hope to see you there! There is no happier ending than seeing students out there using the skills they are learning, along with the new folks looking for a fun evening. While this is not a dance party theme that just calls out for a costume, if you happen to have something glittery and glam hanging in your closet, this would be a great time to bring it out.

Rumba Routine and Monday Night Workshops |
Want to improve your Latin technique? Want to learn new ways to style your dance? Want to learn a routine that will improve your social dance as well as give you some new patterns to try?
An 8-week “Beyond the Routine” class will do all of these things.
This Spring, join Lane as she pushes the limits of your Rumba. We have picked a song, choreographed an interesting routine to that song, and plan learn it together. Plus, if that's the kind of thing that sounds fun to you, students and staff will have opportunities to perform the routine once it is finished. But performing is an option, and you should only do it if you want to.
The 8-week class begins this Monday, March 12, at 7:00pm and is $115. This rate includes one private lesson, which can be taken with Lane, or any of the other Sapphire teachers, to really polish your dancing. You ought to have a solid foundation in Rumba, about Level 2, before join in. Please ask an instructor if you want to find out if this class is for you.
At the 8pm slot, following the routine we have some two night workshops. Nightclub 2-Step, “Doing More with Rotation” on Monday, March 19, and West Coast Swing, “Wraps” on Monday, March 26. We have April workshops on the website too, so check them all out at http://www.sapphiredance.com/int-adv-wksp.php.

New Blacksburg Group Classes |
We have Ballroom... we have Country... we have Swing... and we have Latin… Plus, we have the upper level classes. We have it all for this session!
Waltz, dating back to the 19th century, is such a classic style full of grace and elegance. For a lot of people, when they think of Ballroom dancing, Waltz is the first thing that comes to mind, and with good reason. This is a great dance to get you started exploring the world of partner dancing.
Country Two-Step may not be the first dance you think about, but is sure is a fun one! Danced to up-beat Country music, it moves counterclockwise around the dance floor, typically with lots of turns. In this Level 1, you will build a good foundation for those turns. So, if you like Country music and want to learn to spin, this is the class for you!
Hustle (one of the many Swing styles) probably makes you think of John Travolta and Saturday Night Fever. While that image is somewhat correct, this dance has evolved with the music and fits wonderfully to both disco and a lot of the hit of today. This dance is GREAT for weddings and parties because it is so versatile. It is also one of the most beginner friendly dances out there.
Salsa and Merengue are featured together because they are two Latin club favorites. Where you find one, you will often find the other! They utilize lots of similar techniques but have two different rhythm structures. Salsa is on the more complex side while Merengue is more straightforward, giving you both a challenge and a fun and easy dance.
This session, the continuation classes are a Level 2 Swing, looking at both Single and Triple Time Swing styles, and Level 2 Nightclub 2-Step. If you have some experience in these styles feel free to join in!
