Sapphire Dance News - November 2017 |
Times, they are a changin’...as the temperatures and leaves continue to drop, you can feel “change” in the air. While we at Sapphire are always trying to mix things up and put a fresh, new spin on your dancing, ultimately the wonder of social dance never changes. We are so thankful to be in a business that is all about having a good time, enjoying movement and music coming together, and connecting to those around you. Read on to see what new things will come with this wonderful new season, but remember that dance, which is as old as time, is always there for you to enjoy!

80’s Explosion Dance Party, Saturday, Nov 11
|
It’s that time of year to reflect on what you are thankful for...and we are celebrating this special time with an 80’s Explosion Dance party.
...What?! Yes, that’s right! We are thankful for the 80’s and all the great music and big hair it produced. What better time of year to pull out those leg warmers and warm up to a totally radical Cha Cha lesson. The lesson will start at 7:30 with basic steps and fundamentals, but will have even the experienced dancers trying something new by the end of the hour. Then stick around to dance your favorite dance styles to awesome 80’s hits.
And if you want the chance to win the dancing chef prize, make sure to bring a snack to share. Maybe some Doritos and Bubble Yum bubble gum? Hm. No, I don't think that's a winning combination. Maybe something chocolate instead.
Check out the full list of dance parties and special events at http://www.sapphiredance.com/events.php. 2018 Dances will be posted soon!

November Group Classes and CBR Selections |
A new set of classes begins November 7 & 8 with lots to choose from! If you are just getting started you have Swing, Fox Trot, and Bachata to choose from… a Swing, a Ballroom, and a Latin style! We also have two Level 2 classes if you are an experienced social dancer.
Level 1 Swing (Wednesdays at 6:15) will have you movin’ and groovin’ with the happy, up-beat East Coast Swing. You’ll get a personal introduction to both the Single Time and Triple Time variations, preparing you for any speed of music that comes your way! This is the perfect dance to prepare for all those up coming holiday parties.
Speaking of happy and movin’, you could use those words to describe Fox Trot as well. The Level 1 class in this debonaire ballroom style (Tuesdays at 8:15) will have you sauntering around the room with big, smooth steps, ready to “step out” on the town.
Bachata (Wednesdays at 8:15) will introduce you to the sexy leg action and fast turns evident in all Latin styles, but in the framework of an approachable basic and moderately paced music. All of which makes Bachata a great first dance to try. If you like Salsa and Merengue, you will love Bachata!
For Class-By-Requests (CBRs), both the Salsa and Merengue class and the Country Two-Step classes from October are continuing on to Level 2. Both of these classes assume that you have seen Level 1 material. If you are ready and would like to, we’d love to have you join in. If you’re not sure, talk to an instructor about your options.

Upper Level Monday Nights are Swinging in November
|
Monday nights are always a fun grab-bag of upper level one-night workshops and four-week group classes. Choosing from a variety of dance styles, Monday nights are anything but ordinary!
While the Quickstep Group Class class occupies the 7:00 time slot, 6:00 will be Swinging - literally as well as figuratively: starting Oct 30 with Hustle “New Yorkers Walk This Way,” staying on the eastward side of things on Nov 6 with East Coast Swing “Counting Higher,” and finally bouncing to the opposite coast with West Coast Swing “Stylized Basics” on Nov 13. Which ever “coast” you prefer, we have got you covered!
After Thanksgiving, Monday Workshops and Class will be returning to 7pm and 8pm. At the 7pm time slot in late November and December, take a tour of some favorite Ballroom styles: American Tango, Viennese Waltz, Fox Trot, and a look at Fox Trot and Waltz together. At 8pm… well, what do you want to see there? Something Latin, perhaps?
